Alex Joy (he/they)

Alex Joy is a Melbourne based puppeteer, designer and educator. He is a 2022 graduating student of the Lemony S Puppet Lab. In the same year he was selected as an Associate Artist at Theatreworks St Kilda and in 2023 completed the La Mama Theatre Pathways program for emerging theatremakers and playwrights.

Previous work include: Puppeteering for Coldplay's Music of the Sphere's Tour, the role of Winnie The Pooh in the Australian Tour of Disney’s Winnie the Pooh The New Musical Stage Adaptation - a dream opportunity. Puppeteer for Rhythm Barnyard, Sessional puppetry for A Blanck Canvas, including The Greatest Show In The Universe as Doogle, Rolling with Bonkel Theatre, Puppet Captain for three seasons of The Ghostlight League’s Shakespeare Aliens and creative associate for The Danger Ensemble’s Songs of The Flesh.

Alex’s own puppet building and theatre making practice comes under his studio brand One Orange Sock. He was previously a resident artist for Regional Arts Victoria's Creative Workers in Schools Program where he developed young people’s show In Touch. Recently he directed and co-produced Things That Wriggle And Squirm, at the 2023 Melbourne Festival of Puppetry.
